About Our Katie

October 2004

  • Sun, Oct 31, 2004 9:30 PM

Katie was dressed up all day today. In the morning, we took her about town in a ladybug costume. (She stole the spotlight at Village Bagel. ;-)

Tonight, she was in a Pooh sunflower costume. We visited several neighbors' houses, and then Katie enjoyed a prime seat in our foyer, where she watched all the "big" kids who came trick-or-treating at our house.

And, happily, Gran was in town to enjoy the festivities. In fact, she'll be here another full week to enjoy Katie! :-)

When I talked to my dad tonight, he laughed and said he's noticed my posts have been less frequent now that I'm back to work. Yes, it's true, but I'll keep doing my best to ensure that the photos are up-to-date. I just posted several pictures from this weekend and this evening.

By the way, Katie seems to be doing great with her sitters. Miss Mary's three kids all seem to love her. In fact, her younger daughter, who is in kindergarten, told her mom she wants to bring Katie in for Show-and-Tell when they're learning the letter "K." :)

We made it through the first full week back to work. It's going to take a little getting used to, but I think it'll work out fine. We're very lucky to have found two excellent sitters. And, being able to work from home two days a week will be a sanity saver for me!

Tomorrow we're taking Katie to a different portrait studio for her three-month pictures. I think they'll turn out even better than her six-week shots, considering how much sturdier and more animated she is these days.

In addition to being Steve's birthday (happy birthday!), today was my first day back at work and Katie's first day with her sitter, Miss Mary. She's going to be staying with Mary on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. (On Thursdays and Fridays she'll be with me while I work from home.)

I can't say it was the best day of my life, but we survived. Katie seemed to do well with Mary and her 18-month-old, Colin. I was definitely glad when it was time to pick Katie up, and she seemed very glad to see me, too.

The cherry on the sundae came when I was carrying her into our house. On the kitchen floor was a dead mouse on its back. (The cats felt so proud, I'm sure.) Anyway, the mouse must've either come up through the French drain in our basement or scurried in from the garage while I was loading the car. (The door was open quite some time, considering there are now a half dozen parcels for me to tote between home, the sitter's, and the office.)

Anyway, as I said, we survived. But I miss my maternity leave already. Sigh.

Grandpa Murphy's most recent visit has come to a close. We all enjoyed having him (not to mention all his babysitting assistance!). We'll be seeing him (along with Gran and Uncle Ryan) at Thanksgiving. It'll be here before we know it...

Today Katie got to meet her other uncle, Keith. He came to visit on his super-nice new motorcycle. (No rides for Katie, though!)

Keith got to experience Katie's desire to be walked around on a shoulder--all the time. His tall shoulder provided an exciting new perspective for her!

What a busy (and fun) day!

This morning, Grandpa, Steve, Katie, and I checked out "Warrington Day," our township's mini fall festival. The highlight of the event was a petting zoo--one of Steve's favorite things. (Now he actually has an excuse to enjoy them so much!) Katie got to "meet" all kinds of critters. However, she seemed more interested in staring at the grass.

And, this afternoon, Uncle Gary and Aunt Mimi came to visit with Katie. They were fast friends! They couldn't get over her cheeks. They said that photos don't capture their true enormity. In fact, Gary joked that one-third of Katie's body weight is in those jaws! He's probably right... ;-)

Today Grandpa Murphy arrived for his "solo" visit with Katie. For the most part, we'll just be hanging out and enjoying the baby. But, Gramps does have to earn his "keep." I have him scheduled to babysit during a meeting at my office today and during the cats' vet appointment on Friday afternoon! Somehow, I don't think he'll consider it "tough duty," though. :-)

Katie and I had a very busy day today with Danielle!

After Danielle got out of class, the three of us went to New Jersey to have a late lunch with Grandma Renee. After that, we went to Jamesburg to see Aunt Shelly (and get some dessert from Mendoker's Bakery!). Around 6:30, we headed back to Bucks County--with an "emergency" stop to feed the baby--and then Katie got to meet Danielle's mom and stepdad.

It was a whirlwind tour for a little half-pint. I think it's time for bed! :-)

Tonight Katie experienced her first Major League ballgame. In fact, it was her very first sporting event. We got to watch the game from the Unisys suite, which made it much easier to feed and change her. More important, after the game, Katie was displayed on the giant TV screen! She was wearing the baby-sized Phils cap that her dad bought her. I tried to photograph her image on the screen, but it came out blurry.
