For the past couple of days, we've been calling Katie "Snorty Doodles." Her nose has been a bit congested--no doubt thanks to a cold I've had for about five days.
Tonight after work Steve picked up a humidifier for her room, as well as some saline drops to help loosen all that loveliness in her nose. Here's hoping that these measures improve the situation for little Snorty--and for us! We're worn out from two days of an uncharacteristically fussy Katie!Comments:Add a comment:

Yesterday Katie took her first day trip. We went to the home of Steve's cousins, Jayne and Kieran, in Tinton Falls, NJ. Katie did great! She slept all the way there and all the way home. In fact, she slept from the time we left their house (9 p.m.) until 5 a.m. today! She's now slept through the night five nights in a row and counting. Please keep it up, Katie Bug!

Well, I guess TECHNICALLY we hit a trifecta.
Allie and I had Katie out and about yesterday evening, so she was tuckered out and in bed by 9:30. She slept until 4:30 a.m. and then went back down for quite a long nap.
Also, she did her tummy "trick" again. I laid her on her side, but she moved herself onto her stomach for some quality ZZZs. (I really can't blame her... I prefer to sleep that way, too, and I finally can again!)Comments:Add a comment:

We're two for two. Last night Katie went to sleep just before midnight, and she slept until after 6 a.m.
Will it be a trifecta tonight?Comments:Add a comment:

Today we had two "firsts."
Katie slept through the night for the first time last night. We put her down at 10 p.m. and she didn't wake until 5 a.m.! Who knows -- maybe it was a one-time fluke? But, I'm hoping it's a trend!
This afternoon I took Katie for her first professional portraits. We got extremely lucky -- she was in a chipper mood and did great through 12 shots. The photographer even got her smile for one of the poses. I can't wait to get the portraits!Comments:Add a comment:

Katie had her one-month checkup this morning (even though she'll be six weeks old on Thursday).
She received an unequivocally good report. Her weight is now nine pounds, one ounce. She is gaining just over an ounce a day, which the doc said is perfect.
The last time they measured her (July 30), she was 19.5 inches. (Apparently when the pediatrician's office measures, they get a shorter length than the hospital.) In any event, she has grown an inch and a half to 21 inches!
Those figures put her in the 50th percentile for both height and weight.
The appointment concluded with Katie getting her second Hepatitis B vaccination. She did OK -- screamed bloody murder for about 15 seconds and then opened her mouth wide and banged her head on my shoulder, asking to nurse. As usual, she seemed to be very comforted by that.
We go back again on September 28, when she'll receive four vaccinations. Fun, fun...Comments:Add a comment:

Today Steve mounted the "Ocean Wonders" aquarium in Katie's crib. Boy, is it a hit! Katie is just mesmerized by the lights, music, and moving "fishies."

Today was my final follow-up OB appointment. It's going to be weird not visiting that office non-stop!
The appointment was at three, but I decided to leave the house at one. Reason: Katie was napping then, and I knew I'd better get while the gettin' was good! (She does NOT like to go into her car seat while awake. Once she's asleep, she's a perfect angel. But forget trying to drive anywhere with her awake; her screaming could wake the dead!)Comments:Add a comment:

After Katie's middle-of-the-night feeding, I put her on her side in the crib. When I came in this morning, she was sleeping on her tummy! I guess she decided that was more comfy. I'll be interested to see if she does this "trick" again anytime soon?
Tonight we had an impromptu visit with our neighbors, Kevin and Kelly, and their two-year-old son, Tyler. It was so funny to watch Tyler's reactions to Katie. First, he was begging for her to play with him on his jungle gym! Then, as more time passed, the green-eyed monster got the better of him. After his mom had been holding Katie for quite some time, Tyler said to Kelly, "Give her back to her (pointing to me). Give her back to her. Now!" It was hilarious!Comments:Add a comment:

Tonight after dinner Katie was smiling like crazy at Steve. He was making funny noises and faces while holding her. She responded with a series of giant, open-mouthed smiles that lit up her whole face. I don't know whether she actually found him funny or was merely mimicking his expression. Either way, it was awfully cute!

Early this morning Grandma and Grandpa Murphy headed home to the Bluegrass State. We all enjoyed their visit and are eager to see them again soon!
After they left, Katie and I opened her first package from the "Pooh Pantry" -- the giant Rubbermaid container of wrapped gifts from my mom. The deal is, whenever my mom is missing Katie (or vice versa), we'll open one of the presents. There's quite a load in there already. It's a good thing, too; I have a feeling there will be a lot of "missing" going on!Comments:Add a comment:
