Katie has reached another milestone. Strictly speaking, she reached it two months ago; we just didn't realize it. Turns out she's now too long (and possibly too heavy) for her infant car seat. So we've broken out the next car seat, which was a gift from Jayne Fanelli and Lynn Fanelli. I've posted a photo of Katie sitting in it. She looks so tiny in it, doesn't she?
P.S. Let me state for the record: teething is for the birds! The only upside is that when she's particularly distraught, she will say, "Muh! Muh! Muh!" Hey, I guess that's me?! ;-)Comments:Add a comment:

I received some exciting news when I dropped Katie off at Miss Mary's this morning. Her daughters, Megan and Mary Kate, answered the door and promptly informed me that Katie's picture is hanging up at Celebrity Kids Portrait Studio. They were there the other day to have their pictures taken, and Megan said she squealed when she saw the GIANT photo of Katie. It's one of her six-month portraits (the close-up of her wearing only a diaper).
I'm dying to tell Steve. From the first time we set foot in Celebrity Kids, his goal has been to get her in the window. I guess the wall will have to do! I can't wait to head over to English Village and see for ourselves...Comments:Add a comment:

Katie's first Easter has concluded. Although we missed having the Fanellis over, we enjoyed a much-needed day of peace and relaxation at home.
Of course, we still got an early start this morning (thanks, Katie!). It was just as well, I suppose. Steve, er, the "Easter Bunny" had left a trail of carrots and cabbage leaves on our back steps. He also hid plastic eggs and Easter baskets for Danielle and Katie.
Danielle made me laugh by saying "At least this year there's a baby around to justify all this. I can have SOME dignity." ;-)Comments:Add a comment:

Today we took Katie to Egg Harbor City, NJ, to meet Maury and Jane. Katie really enjoyed her visit at their home (and Steve and I really enjoyed Jane's delicious food!). But, once again, I forgot my digital camera (just like I did last week at Grandma Renee's). So I don't have any photos to post. :-(
I did upload a couple of pics of Katie with some of her Easter gifts. She has been fortunate to receive many thoughtful (and cute!) gifts for her first Easter. Aunt Peggy and Uncle Danny definitely win the award for Most Creative Packaging, though. Check out the March photo album to see what I mean!Comments:Add a comment:

The teething continues but only in spurts. We bought some more "chillable" teething rings, which are coming in very handy.
Before I forget, I wanted to report on a few other firsts:
* Katie has begun clapping her hands. She does so spontaneously and with a big grin on her face. You can tell she's very proud of herself.
* She also has learned to crawl--but only backwards! When a desirable object is placed just out of her reach, she puts herself into "reverse." As you can imagine, watching her goal become further and further away causes her a great deal of frustration! So, at this point, crawling and tears go hand in hand.
* Katie has also discovered her nose--and how to pick it. We often catch her with an index finger resting comfortably in a nostril. What's even worse is that she tries to pick OUR noses, too. Oh, boy.Comments:Add a comment:

When I was putting Katie to bed last night, I decided to check her TOP gums. Sure enough, I spotted two big hunks of white. I always thought she'd get her bottom teeth first, but apparently not.
Anyway, the sitter called to say she's running a temperature of 101.7 and she's VERY fussy. The sitter commented on how large the two top teeth appear to be. Poor Katie! :-(Comments:Add a comment:

Yesterday we took a ride to New Jersey to visit Grandma Renee. Although it's been nearly two months since we've seen her, Katie warmed up to Grandma quickly! (She seems to have a great capacity for remembering grandparents. :-)
Katie was in a good mood yesterday, but in the last week, we've become convinced that she's teething. She has periods of horrendous crankiness and also wants to be held A LOT. We don't see any teeth poking through. However, she responds well to chilled teething rings (and Infant Tylenol, when necessary!). I wish these teeth would get on with it already.
Also, I just can't emphasize enough what a mouth this kid has. She babbles constantly! Grandma Renee said you can tell that Katie *really* wants to talk. So far, her "vocabulary" consists of "dah," "da-ee," "bah," and the occasional "kuh-kuh-kuh." Of course, there are also plenty of squawks, shrieks, and shouts to go around!
She is also extremely active lately. Except when she's sleeping, she doesn't stop moving. Even when she's eating, there's usually some body part in motion. Suffice it to say, Katie is wearing us out--and she isn't even crawling or walking yet!Comments:Add a comment:

I thought it was time for another "exciting" food report. Since the update in January, she has added the following to her culinary repertoire:
* Peaches
* Peas
* Green beans
* Squash
* Pear yogurt
* Peach yogurt
At the grocery yesterday, I also purchased prunes. We'll give those a shot later this week!
I've noticed that some mornings, she seems to be hungry even after nursing. On those days, if I offer her yogurt, she'll eat the whole container! We haven't made that part of our daily routine, though. We're still doing noon and 7 p.m. feedings of rice cereal or oatmeal mixed with a fruit or vegetable. Sometimes she eats it all, sometimes she takes half, and sometimes she just isn't that hungry.
Fortunately, she likes everything she has tried. Unfortunately, she has discovered the fun of blowing raspberries right as a spoonful of food touches her lips!Comments:Add a comment:

This morning we decided to take a ride up to see the newest Fanelli: Derek Anthony. We enjoyed meeting him (he is absolutely precious and has a very sweet disposition) and spending time with Anthony, Christine, and Kaylah.
We also went to see Gary, Mimi, Andrea, and Jennifer. We got to see the new place they're building in Palmer Township. It's really beautiful--not to mention a lot closer to our house. And that's a good thing, considering that Katie had a ball playing with her "big girl" cousin, Kaylah!
Check out all the photos in the "Meeting Baby Derek!" album.Comments:Add a comment:

Tonight we experienced another milestone: Katie had her first hazardous, near-death experience (well, that might be a slight exaggeration...).
Steve, Danielle, Katie, and I were out for dinner. Katie is a big fan of those cardboard squares that restaurants use as coasters. We gave her some to play with because, in the past, she's just slid them back and forth on the table. But tonight, she started gnawing on one while we weren't paying enough attention.
To make a long story short, we looked over to find her eyes watering profusely and saliva foaming from her mouth. In other words, she was choking. Steve reacted quickly (thank goodness!) and used his finger to extract the paper from her throat. It was probably 2 1/2 inches square--pretty big for her tiny throat. Within a couple of minutes, she had forgotten the whole thing (and was reaching for steak knives). I can't say the same for the three adults at the table!
It was the first truly UN-relaxing restaurant experience we've had. Besides the choking incident, she was just NON-STOP the whole time. She's into everything lately--which I am sure will continue indefinitely!Comments:Add a comment:

Just wanted to post a quick update:
* Katie has discovered her clothes and, more important, her ability to manipulate them. She likes to pull her sleeve down over her hand and chew on the fabric. This leaves an oh-so-attractive wet mark on the sleeve.
* She is endlessly amused by Vito. When she goes back and forth in her musical swing, Vito chases the moving reflection made by a mirror on the swing. This cracks her up; I'm talking raucous belly laughs!
* To be sure, she's still very vocal (read: LOUD). Lately, she seems to always be running her mouth--either babbling, shouting, or laughing. As Steve puts it, "This kid just doesn't shut up!" Even Danielle commented on Katie's volume--and that's saying something! :-)
* Finally, Steve has done a couple of pick-ups at Miss Mary's recently. I think he's been a little hurt by Katie's reaction when he gets there. She has given him the seven-month-old equivalent of, "Oh, hi. Nice to see you. But, I really need to get back to playing with my friends." Mary said Steve seemed very disappointed when her kindergartener, Mary Kate, informed him that Katie does belly laughs with them all the time. He thought he had that market cornered! ;-)Comments:Add a comment:

It's been a hectic couple of weeks; I apologize for the lack of photos and updates. I just took some pictures of Katie that are posted in the new March album.
In terms of updates, her motor skills are improving slightly every day. Steve believes she's getting close to crawling. She certainly can lunge for and grab what she wants! We've been doing more tummy time lately, and she seems to be getting into it much more than before.
In addition, I'm sorry to report that she's consistently saying "Da" and "Dah-ee" now. When I point out to (a very delighted) Steve that we can't be sure she knows what she's saying, he replies, "Well, we CAN be sure of what she's NOT saying: 'Momma.'" Point taken.Comments:Add a comment:
